Steps to Enroll for Returning Students

*If you were a former F-1 international student and would like to return to DVC, email to see if you are eligible for re-admission.

If you previously completed courses at DVC, LMC or CCC, but have not taken a class for one year or more, you will need to begin at step one, and reapply for admission. You will keep the same student ID number and your transcripts will show all classes you've previously taken within the college district.

Step one: apply

Submit a new online application at CCCApply. This will reactivate your account.

Within 24 business hours, you will be emailed your unchanged DVC student ID number, new registration date, important student account information, and a link to the online orientation.

This information will be sent to the email address you provided on your application.

Although not required for returning students, we highly recommend all students complete online orientation, assessment and academic advising.

If you are on probation level two, dismissal, or have completed more than 100 degree units, you may appeal your registration date. Please refer to the registration appointment appeal form to know when you can submit an appeal. Students will receive a response by email within three-five business days. Please check your InSite email daily.

Step two: online orientation

After you receive your student ID number, you should complete the online orientation (también está disponible en español.) The orientation will provide you with important information about student services, the online student portal, programs, procedures and policies.

Check out our How-To video for information about the Online Orientation:

Step three: assessment/placement process

Once you have completed the online orientation, it is time to get your English and math placements. If you are a graduating high school senior, or you graduated from a regionally accredited high school in the United States within the past ten years, you can use our Multiple Measures online tool for placement. If not, you can schedule an appointment online at our Assessment Center. Please note that some students may not be required to assess/place, please review do I need to take an assessment for more information.

Step four: academic advising

After completing the assessment, we highly recommend meeting with a counselor to complete an education plan. Counselors will be able to answer any questions you have about transferring and potential degree pathways. To account for coursework/credit completed at other institutions, you will need to have submitted your transcript(s) to request a "transcript evaluation" appointment. If you do not plan to transfer, you have the option to complete your education plan for DVC degrees and certificates without a counselor by using the student planning tool on InSite.

Step five: register for classes
  • Within 24 business hours of completing the application, you will receive a registration date in your InSite email.
  • Please see our How To library, which includes directions on registration. Check out the How to Search, Plan, and Register for Classes video for step-by-step directions. This will show you the steps to select your classes and be set up and ready for your assigned registration date. You can view your registration dates on InSite. Look for the Registration Dates tile.

Please note that some classes require a prerequisite. These can be found in the class schedule.
