Diablo Valley College offers prerequisite courses within the health sciences department to prepare students for a career path in nursing. Nursing programs are highly competitive, so we recommend students complete the following prerequisite coursework, with a 3.0 GPA.
Regina Porras Carlos had a difficult start to her college endeavors, but with the guidance of DVC transfer services, she completed her pre-requisite courses at DVC and was able to transfer to Mills College in 2008 to complete a pre-nursing program. She went on to the Samuel Merritt University Nursing program in 2009 and fulfilled her dream and graduated with a B.S. in nursing. Graduates completing the Registered Nursing Program will receive an Associate In Science Degree in Nursing and qualify to take the State Board Examination (NCLEX-RN) for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
