Are you interested in a career working with children and helping to develop the minds of our future leaders? Is English your second language and do you wish to improve your English reading, writing and speaking skills? Then Project ACCESS may be just for you.
Project ACCESS is a collaborative project between Diablo Valley College and Mt. Diablo Adult Education. It provides training, career and other support services for non-native speakers of English who want to enter and advance in the early childhood education (ECE) field.
Students take one English as a Second Language (ESL) class and one Early Childhood Education (ECE) class per term. It is recommended that students complete assessment through the ESL placement test into ESL-086-High Intermediate Reading Comprehension and ESL-088-High Intermediate Writing. The following sequence of linked courses are taken together:
Courses | Term |
---|---|
ECE-123 and ESL-111 | Spring 2019 |
ECE-130 and ESL-113 | Fall 2019 |
ECE-125 and ESL-112 | Spring 2020 |
ECE-124 and ESL-110 | Fall 2020 |
The classes are taught in the evening to allow students to work and go to school.
